Ashraf Alam

Oxford University, UK

Ashraf Alam, an undergraduate studying mathematics at St Catherine’s College, University of Oxford, participated in Reinstalling Hope’s internship program. Of Bangladeshi descent and raised in Southampton, UK, Ashraf brought his passion for mathematics and coding to Nepal while also pursuing his love for rock climbing in his free time.

During the internship, Ashraf explored Nepal’s unique mountainous geography and immersed himself in its rich culture, particularly its deep ties to Hinduism and Buddhism. Inspired by his visits to Bangladesh, where he witnessed the challenges faced by people in developing nations, Ashraf had developed a strong interest in addressing global socio-economic disparities. Through this program, he worked to enhance the learning experiences of Nepali students, offering them hope and tools for a brighter future.

Iris Santalucia

Kenyon College, USA

Iris Santalucia, a rising junior at Kenyon College majoring in Philosophy and minoring in Religious Studies, contributed her creativity and passion for the arts during her time as a Reinstalling Hope intern. With a deep love for filmmaking, photography, and the arts, Iris used her theatrical approach to teach English speaking and writing skills to students.

Beyond teaching, Iris explored rural villages and Nepal’s breathtaking natural landscapes, finding moments to rejuvenate her mindfulness practices. She embraced the opportunity to immerse herself in Nepali culture, leaving a lasting impact on the students she worked with while also enriching her own understanding of the country’s traditions.

Julian Beima

Kenyon College, USA

Julian Beima, a music student at Kenyon College, brought his love for cultural exchange and music to Nepal as part of the Reinstalling Hope internship program. He had a strong interest in Nepal’s religious customs and musical traditions, which he incorporated into his interactions with students.

During his time in Nepal, Julian engaged with local communities through music, fostering genuine, non-touristic interactions. He contributed meaningfully to the program’s mission by educating and inspiring students while also gaining a profound appreciation for Nepal’s rich cultural heritage.

Nolan Morris

New York University, USA

Nolan Morris, a student at New York University specializing in English, mathematics, and the arts, participated in Reinstalling Hope’s internship as his first experience in Asia. With strong interests in theater and film, Nolan leveraged his creative passions to engage students and support their learning.

Throughout the internship, Nolan worked alongside schoolchildren and community organizers to provide educational resources for middle and high school students. He also took full advantage of Nepal’s cultural resources, delving into its art, history, and politics. His time in Nepal left him with a deeper understanding of the country’s cultural richness and a sense of fulfillment from making a positive impact.
